Observations and initial impressions of the 2025 vintage in Bordeaux
Mild and Dry Winter
A major difference from the winter of 2024, which was above all wet, but thanks to it the soil recharge was complete, without excess. Winter work could therefore take place smoothly.
Of course, no one should forget that the 2025 flower was formed in spring 2024, a period that was not particularly favorable to such an important stage.
But we know this and are ready, in this sense, to preserve whatever nature offers us.
The teams can be proud to be ready to calmly welcome the 2025 cycle.
Budbreak remains early and homogeneous at the end of March under mild and dry weather, with no frost forecast.
Exceptionally Dry and Mild Spring
The very dry conditions in March finally saved winegrowers from strong downy mildew pressure.
The season can therefore unfold serenely, allowing each stage of the vine’s cycle to be supported as best as possible by the teams.
The early and compact flowering between the 2nd and 3rd week of May, under hot and dry climatic conditions, enhances the potential of the 2025 vintage; a first great victory!
The bunches prepare and close at the end of June, water is awaited to swell the grapes, which are healthy and magnificent.
Summer
Despite the lack of water, véraison (change of color) begins very well and early, a sign that the vine can draw from the soil, recharged thanks to 2024…
This is followed by ideal conditions for quality — certainly not for quantity: the first ten days of August are very dry and scorching, followed by a second part with beautiful temperature swings, favorable to aromatic refinement for whites and skin maturity for reds; everything is going very well, a second victory!
Harvest and Vinification
2025 once again marks an exceptionally early harvest, and the welcome late-August rains helped avoid stress….
Note prepared by the following consulting oenologists, whom you can also watch in the videos:
Eric Boissenot Laboratoire Œnologique Boissenot
« We harvested extremely early, in mid-August, and we harvested extremely quickly, since by the end of September almost all the grapes had been brought into the cellar. »
Julien Viaud Rolland & Associés
« 2025 is an intense vintage, as we harvested extremely early… a graceful vintage, graceful because of its beautiful aromatic intensity,… a fleshy vintage with delicious wines that are sensual and smooth. »
Julien LAVENU
« The wines offer a wide aromatic palette, without any vegetal character, with high-quality texture and significant depth. »
Thomas Duclos Oenoteam
« As of today, the wines are showing under the best auspices, with density, a very Bordeaux-like expression of flavor, and remarkable textures. The 2024 vintage directly influences the 2025 vintage, with a rather low cluster count compared to the average, promising small yields. »
Pr Axel Marchal
« The dry white wines are also delicious. They managed to preserve both aromatic potential and acidity despite the extreme heat of early August. And we harvested magnificent sweet wines in small quantities, as with all Bordeaux harvests this year, but of very high quality. »
Valèrie Lavigne
« Not only did the vines withstand these extreme temperatures on the vast majority of soils, but they also completed the perfect maturation of the grapes of the different varieties. »
